HD Radio Standard In All New Volvos

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 10/15/2009

Columbia, Md. - Volvo Cars of North America became the first automaker to offer HD Radio as a standard feature in all its car lines, confirmed iBiquity Digital, developer of HD Radio.

The car maker will offer HD Radio standard in all 2010/2011 car models, said iBiquity.

HD Radio is offered as a standard feature by other car makers, but not across all their car lines.

BMW recently said it will make HD Radio standard in the 1 series, 3 series and Z4 Roadster this fall in 2010 models, according to iBiquity.  The feature is also standard in select Jaguar models.

Other car makers offering HD Radio either as optional or standard equipment include Audi, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Land Rover, Lincoln, Mercedes Benz, Mercury, and Mini USA and Scion.

HD Radio stations are available to 85 percent of the U.S. population, according to iBiquity. More than 2,000 HD Radio stations are on the air, and many of the FM stations are multicasting more than 1,000 HD2 and HD3 programs simultaneously with their main program.
