London - Satsports announced the North American debut of what it claims is the first multi-sport all-weather GPS.

The $490 handheld combines GPS for eight sports, including skiing, snowboarding, golfing, running and cycling, and has an automotive GPS option.

For skiers are maps of ski slopes from around the world, including lodges, restaurants and rescue-service information. It also tracks the skier's personal speed and altitude statistics.

The golfing application offers 2D and 3D flyover views of 700 golf courses for a realistic view of the hole prior to teeing off. It provides yardage measurements to points on the green and to hazards. It also monitors such statistics as club used and putts per hole, and it has an output to Google Earth so golfers can replay their round in 3D.  Additional golf courses may be downloaded.

Also included are maps for runners, hikers, bikers, etc. and the ability to track statistics.

A $65 optional SD card allows the unit to function as a street navigator.  The unit is currently offered at sports resorts but will be sold through retailers in the future, said the company, which also provides sports navigation apps for Windows Mobile and Android smartphones.
