Canon To Skip PMA Show

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 10/12/2009

Canon USA confirmed reports that it has elected not to attend the PMA 2010 trade show in Anaheim, Calif., Feb. 21-23, 2010, citing changing technology and business conditions.

“Canon USA has decided not to participate in the PMA 2010 trade show,” a Canon spokesperson confirmed. “The imaging industry remains the core of our business, and we are committed to helping it flourish in the future and for Canon to remain a leader in this important industry.”

The company will continue to exhibit at the International CES, to be held in Las Vegas in January.

Company executives cited accelerating product lifecycles and the need to be more agile as its reason for skipping the February show. The difficult economy was said not to have been a motivating factor.

The wide variety of overlapping digital technologies featured prominently in the CES setting was said to be more in line with Canon's current market direction. The Las Vegas show was also said to offer a broader mix of retailers that Canon is looking to reach with its new multifaceted product technologies.

In recent years, the PMA show has been held in Las Vegas, but the location was moved to Anaheim this year.

Canon executives reportedly said the location change was also a factor in the decision.
