Mamiya Unveils 2 Pro-Level d-SLR Series

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 10/1/2009

Elmsford, N.Y. - Mamiya unveiled Thursday two new lines of medium-format professional-grade digital-SLR cameras and a series of Leaf-Shutter lenses optimized for digital photography.

Mamiya's 56 and 33 Megapixel series d-SLR models - DM56 and DM33 - are said to deliver a wide range of options including record high flash-sync speeds up to 1/1600 per second via three new Mamiya leaf-shutter digital lenses.

Designed and developed in conjunction with Schneider Kreuznach, and manufactured by Mamiya, the 55mm f/2.8 D L/S, 80mm f/2.8 D L/S, and 110mm f/2.8 S L/S will begin shipping in Q4 2009.

For other shooting situations, Mamiya offers its 645AF series lenses, ranging from 28mm to 300mm APO. All are compatible with the cameras' focal plane shutter.

Both the DM56 and DM33 also offer a 30 percent faster autofocus system, the company said.

Software solutions for RAW file processing are provided with the cameras, including new versions of Leaf Capture, and Capture One software by Phase One, allowing photographers their choice of workflow from the industry leaders.

Mamiya's 28- and 22-megapixel models, the DM28 and DM22, are positioned as value models for professional photographers.

The cameras each feature 16-bit/ channel image quality and industry-leading shooting speeds.

Mamiya offers a range of 15 645AF focal plane lenses that are compatible with the DM22 and DM28 models.

Both cameras also include RAW file processing with new versions of either Leaf Capture or Capture One software by Phase One.

The company said pricing and availability dates on the products will be announced later.
