Epson Bows Four PowerLite 1080p 3LCD Projectors

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 9/10/2009

Epson will use CEDIA Expo to unveil four new 1080p 3LCD home-theater projectors for its PowerLite line.

The new models include the PowerLite Home Cinema 8100, HC 8500 UB, PC 9100 and PC 9500 UB.

The HC 8100, which will carry an estimated street retail of $1,999, features 1080p resolution a 36,000:1 contrast ratio, 1,800 lumens brightness output, and is targeting “price-sensitive home entertainment and A/V enthusiasts,” Espon said.

The unit uses Epson's D7 3LCD chip set with enhanced color and detail, an OptiCinema lens from Fujinon (2.1 zoom ratio), an advanced dust-filtration system and a fan-noise level of 22dB.

For a $3,000 estimated street retail, the HC 8500 UB boosts the contrast ratio to 150,000:1 using a dual-layered iris system, and new Super-resolution technology along with newly developed real color reproduction, refined frame interpolation and UltraBlack technology.

Brightness is listed at up to 1,600 lumens of color and white light output.

The unit uses Epson's C2Fine D7 3LCD chip set and UltraBlack technology, and adds video processing and up-scaling through a built-in Silicon Optix HQV Reon-VX video processor and PW390 video scaler.

Epson's FineFrame Technology offers smoother frame interpolation and sharper video quality, the company said. Brightness of up to 1,600 color and white light output is listed for the unit, Epson claimed.

The projector offers seven color modes — Dynamic, Living Room, Natural, Theatre, Theatre Black 1, Theatre Black 2 and x.v.Color — and includes dual HDMI 1.3a connections with Deep Color support.

Leading off the new PowerLite Pro Cinema models at a $3,000 estimated street retail is the PC 9100 1080p 3LCD model with a contrast ratio of up to 36,000:1, brightness of up to 1,800 lumens, ISF calibration and color isolation.

The unit produces enhanced colors through its D7 3LCD chip set, Cinema Filter and color-isolation adjustment system, which does not require color glasses.

It offers six color modes, two HDMI 1.3a connections with Deep Color support and a 2.1x optical zoom with manual focus.

Highlighting the new offerings is the Pro Cinema 9500 UB ($4,000 estimated street retail). The 1080p model includes dual-layered auto iris technology for a 150,000:1 contrast ratio and Epson's Super-resolution technology combined with new real color reproduction and refined frame interpolation to enhance image clarity and color accuracy.

Brightness is listed at up to 1,600 lumens of color and white light output.

The 9500 UB adds an anamorphic lens mode, and a suite of professional-level color tools, including ISF calibration, color isolation and preset color space selection.

Epson's 3LCD technology uses a C2Fine D7 chip set and UltraBlack technology, the company said.

Internal up-scaling and video processing is handled by a Silicon Optix HQV Reon-VX video processor and PW390 video scaler.

Epson will ship a spare lamp, ceiling mount and cable cover with the unit.
