Yacoubian Joins Monster

By John Laposky -- TWICE, 8/19/2009

Brisbane, Calif. - Former MyerEmco president and current Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) chairman Gary Yacoubian has joined Monster to fill the company's newly created position of strategic development VP.

Yacoubian had been with MyerEmco, the Gaithersburg, Md.-based specialty audio/video chain and custom-installation company for the past 21 years, serving as the company's president and COO for the past five. He left the chain in July.

Yacoubian formally became chairman of the CEA in January and has retained the volunteer post since. CEA bylaws require that directors work for member companies. Monster is a CEA member company.

According to a statement from Monster, under Yacoubian's leadership, MyerEmco became one of Monster's most successful retailers. "He brings to Monster a retailer's insight on how accessories programs can be even more effectively implemented. He will be focusing Monster's strategies in order to help the company forge even stronger and better partnerships with its retailers through new programs and initiatives," the statement read.

Head Monster Noel Lee commented on the appointment: "Thanks to his many years at MyerEmco, one of Monster's top M5 retailers, Gary will be able to bring Monster his unique expertise and ability to literally see through the eyes of a retailer, as opposed to those of a manufacturer. This will help us as we focus even more intensively on developing precisely the right kinds of products and sell-through programs our dealers need to help them grow their business. We're thrilled to have him as part of our senior Monster management team."

Yacoubian also commented on his new position: "From the beginning of my conversations with Monster, I could see this was a natural fit. Noel and his team were eager for my retail perspective, and I have personally seen and felt the benefits that Monster can bring retailers from the ‘other side of the table.' Monster is a terrific company that truly wants to become even more responsive to the needs of its retail customers, from creating the right products and delivering them at the right time to improving its already world-class merchandising and sell-through campaigns.  I'm very much looking forward to becoming part of that critical process. In fact, one of the first things I'm looking forward to is reaching out to Monster's retailers to explore ways we'll be able to provide exactly what they need and form even closer partnerships in success."

Monster is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
