Los Gatos, Calif. — Sony Electronics has agreed to add Netflix's online video-streaming service to Bravia LCD TVs with Bravia Internet Video Link capability.
Beginning in the fall, Netflix members with unlimited plan subscriptions will be able to access more than 12,000 movies and TV episodes streamed from Netflix through their Bravia Internet-ready TVs and through legacy Bravia TVs connected to a Bravia Internet Video Link module.
Sony joins a number of CE manufacturers that have signed on to include the Netflix streaming service through the CE devices. Others with the capability include Microsoft (with the Xbox360), LG Electronics, Roku, Samsung, TiVo and Vizio.
Subscriptions for the Netflix service begin at $8.99/month for unlimited streaming and unlimited DVD rentals by mail.
“Sony has been a world leader in consumer electronics for decades,” said Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix. “We are proud to include Sony Electronics among our CE partners who continue to provide new and exciting ways for Netflix members to instantly watch movies and TV episodes in their living rooms on their TVs.”
