Lake Success, N.Y. - Canon USA said Tuesday that it has added two Pixma Photo all-in-one (AIO) printers and a Selphy compact photo printer.
The new Pixma printers, which are designed for users looking for printers that can print, copy and scan, include the MP490 ($100 estimated retail) and MP560 ($150).
Both include Canon's Fine print head technology, and an improved Auto Photo Fix II feature that resolves common photo-printing errors, such as underexposed images, through Multi-Zone Exposure Correction and improvements in overall face detection, scene analysis, plus brightness and saturation correction.
Canon said the printers will also be compatible with the forthcoming Windows 7 operating system.
The printers include Easy-WebPrint EX1 software that simplifies printing out Web-based content.
An Auto Clip feature enables selection of a Web page that they would like to have printed rather than printing out the whole page which will help users conserve their ink supply.
As the successor to the Pixma MP620, the Pixma MP560 wireless photo AIO printer is said to be the most compact Canon inkjet printer to have both wireless capabilities and built-in auto duplex printing.
The AIO printer is the first Pixma printer with the ability to print out pictures directly from a USB flash-memory device.
The unit features a sleek new design, five individual ink tanks with the ChromaLife100+ ink system, and the ability to print out "photo-lab quality" borderless 4-inch by 6-inch prints in approximately 39 seconds.
The 2-inch LCD screen and integrated Easy-Scroll wheel provide menu navigation and image previewing.
A new ISO print-speed standard will deliver output at approximately 9.2 images per minute (ipm) for black-and-white documents and approximately 6 ipm for color.
The Pixma MP490 AIO uses a ChromaLife100-plus four-color ink system and can print out a photo-lab quality borderless 4- by 6-inch photo in approximately 43 seconds.
Also included is a 1.8-inch LCD screen and a self-opening output tray.
The template printing feature has been enhanced to now include 11 different templates, which now include schedules and handwriting paper. Under the new ISO print speed standard, the Pixma MP490 photo AIO printer will create letter-sized documents at approximately 8.4 ipm for black-and-white documents and approximately 4.8 ipm for color.
"The addition of these new printers to the product lineup further demonstrates the Canon commitment to providing consumers with high-quality digital imaging solutions at an affordable price," stated Yuichi Ishizuka, Canon USA consumer imaging group general manager and senior VP. "The addition of new technologies such as Auto Photo Fix II will help to resolve issues consumers have had in the past with images, such as red-eye removal, while improving the overall image quality at the same time."
Canon also unveiled the Selphy CP770 compact photo printer that has been upgraded with a storage basket. The basket can be used to store paper, ink cartridges and the power cord.
The new Creative Options allow users to add their own creative touch to photos before cropping them on the 3-inch LCD screen. One of the new Creative Options is the Photo Diary Creative Print. This feature allows users to choose from six different layouts, six background colors and 18 clip-art stamps to personalize their photos. This truly portable printer features an optional battery and memory card slots, allowing for printing on the go without the need of a computer.
The Selphy CP790 ($180 estimated selling price) includes enhancements to the Portrait Image Optimize feature that are said to improve the printer's performance over previous Selphy models. The face-detection brightness correction and color cast correction now produce skin tones and faces with colors that are more natural, Canon said.
The Canon Selphy CP790 compact photo printer prints a 4- by 6-inch photos in approximately 43 seconds, which is 10 percent faster than the previous model.
An optional NB-CP2L battery pack will be available for an $80 estimated retail.
