DXG Adds UW Camcorder Pack, Upgrades Web Site

In preparation for its soon to ship 2009 mini camcorders

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 6/26/2009

City of Industry, Calif. — Now preparing to ship many of the mini camcorders for its 2009 line, DXG on Friday introduced an accessory product to take one of its compact digital camcorders into the water.

In addition, DXG unveiled a new Web site with an online store featuring the complete DXG product line.

To promote the site changes, DXG said it is also offering customers 10 percent off on all DXG products purchased through the site through July 5. To qualify, customers must enter the code “DXG10” when making an online purchase.

As for the new accessories, DXG unveiled a Value Pack for the DXG-579VS, which it calls “the first underwater video camera priced under $150.”

The package, which is available now at a $150 suggested retail, includes an underwater housing for the DXG-579VS, enabling the camcorder to be taken into the water while swimming, snorkeling or diving, DXG said.

The case will allow underwater use of most of the DXG-579VS functions; zooming; shooting still photos; and capturing video in color, black and white, or sepia tones.

The underwater casing is waterproof to a depth of 15 feet for up to 30 minutes. It includes rubberized controls to operate the record, stop, play, zoom, still image or video modes. The package will also enable illuminating underwater objects.

“DXG designs products around the lifestyles of everyday consumers— with high-quality HD video at affordable prices, underwater and action-oriented devices, and stylish designs for the fashion conscious,” said Paul Goldberg, DXG sales and marketing senior VP. “Our customers are having fun with our products and capturing everyday life wherever they go. Our cameras fit in their pockets, look great, work easily, and are in the $100 price range — all important factors for consumers today.”

The DXG-579VS records video in resolutions up to 1,280 by 720p high definition at 30 fps. It will record up to four hours using an optional external SD card with up to 8GB of capacity.

The camcorder also includes 32MB of internal flash memory. It features a 2.4-inch TFT LCD monitor, a 4x digital zoom and is powered by four AAA batteries.

The Value Pack includes the DXG-579VS camcorder, underwater casing, four AAA batteries, USB/AV cable, camera pouch, wrist strap, photo-editing software CD, user’s manual and a quick-start guide

DXG will also sell the underwater casing separately at a $50 suggested retail for use with any DXG-579V camera. The camcorder in the value pack comes in silver. DXG-579V units sold separately are available in silver, black, blue, red and pink.
