Long Beach, Calif. — Kenwood is now delivering what it claims is the industry’s most advanced marine audio receiver, offering iPhone 3G USB direct control.
The model KMR-700U, at $400 suggested retail, is a “mechless” audio player without a CD mechanism. It has

a USB connector for thumb drives and a 30-pin iPod connector for an iPod or iPhone that can sit in a compartment behind a water-resistant (IPX5-rated) front panel to protect it from the elements.
The device is Works with iPhone and Made for iPod ready to control the iPod/iPhone from the head unit. It also affords a direct connection to a Sirius SCC1 tuner, without requiring an external adapter.
Marine features include coated circuit boards and an anti-corrosive chassis. The unit has a large four-line display fully visible in bright sunlight, according to Kenwood. It also has a 4-volt preamp outputs and will keep all memory settings even when the battery power is removed from the system. A wired remote option is available at $160.
The 700U was first announced in January.
