HP Intros Latest Printer Lines

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 6/9/2009

Palo Alto, Calif. — Hewlett-Packard today expanded its Photosmart and Deskjet printer lines with the addition of three new models.

The $149 Photosmart Plus all-in-one, shipping in August, has the ability to print, copy and scan. It features built-in Wi-Fi support and HP’s Photo Print Gadget for drag-and-drop printing. The software also automatically corrects for red eye.

Images can be manipulated via its control panel, negating the need to use a PC. Print speeds are 29 ppm for black and up to 23 ppm for color. It scans at 48-bit color with a resolution of 1,200 by 2,400 and can make about nine copies per minute.

The second all-in-one is the Photosmart C4700. It will become available in July for $129. It has the same feature set as the Photosmart Plus, but the end user must use a PC to manipulate photos.

The Deskjet D1600 is a stand-alone printer shipping in August with a $39 suggested price.

All three new products are Energy Star qualified and have HP’s Eco Tips button to tell users how to print responsibly and conserve resources. The D1600 ink cartridges are made from at least 50 percent recycled plastics, and all the models participate in the HP Planet Partner cartridge-recycling program.
