Pioneer Ships Blu-ray Disc Player Trio

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 6/5/2009

Long Beach, Calif. — Pioneer said Thursday that it is now shipping the Pioneer-branded BDP-320 and BDP-120, and Elite-branded BDP-23FD Blu-ray Disc players, all of which offer BD-Live functionality.

The Pioneer BDP-320 ($399 suggested retail) and Elite BDP-23FD ($599) are BD-Live ready out of the box, while the BDP-120 ($299) will ship with a 1GB thumb drive to connect to the player’s USB drive to provide the memory necessary for BD-Live playback.

All three players feature an integrated USB port to make possible further storage capacity with a thumb drive or hard disk for BD-Live entertainment and other applications.

The BDP-320 and BDP-23FD models also offer 48-bit Deep Color support, three video noise-reduction circuits, a picture-control suite with 12 image adjustment capabilities and internal decoding of all advanced audio formats.

“This new line of Blu-ray Disc players represents a core Pioneer philosophy to introduce robust home theater products and show our unwillingness to deliver anything less than the best in audio and video performances for consumers,” said Chris Walker, Pioneer Electronics Blu-ray Disc senior marketing and product planning manager. “With these players we’re providing consumers with superior high-definition solutions that offer the full power of the Blu-ray format, including BD-Live, by adding substantial memory options so they can easily experience this exciting entertainment right out of the box.”

Pioneer is positioning the Elite BDP-23FD at A/V specialty dealers and custom installers, offering advanced integration functionality for seamless control and connectivity in advanced home theaters and networks.

The unit includes a Kuro Link Picture Mode and Precision Quartz Lock System Multi (PQLS), to produce jitter-free playback of soundtracks when the player is used in concert with Pioneer’s newest line of A/V receivers.

It uses professional-grade internal components and a durable chassis construction for high reliability and quality, the company said.
