Russound Taps iPhone

Newmarket, N.H. — Russound is offering iPhone/iPod Touch control of its RNET multi-room-audio systems for the first time with the launch of the $599-street-priced Touchpoint control system.

The TCH1 Touchpoint, due in June, links a home Wi-Fi network with a Russound system to serve up a Russound Web page to the Safari browser of a Wi-Fi-equipped iPhone or Touch. Users save the IP address of the Touchpoint as a bookmark on the iPhone or iPod Touch home screen.

BA Adds Small-Footprint Speakers

Peabody, Mass. — Boston Acoustics launched its first three in-ceiling speakers designed to resemble small in-ceiling light fixtures.

Two are two-way models, both with 3.5-inch woofer and concentrically mounted 0.75-inch tweeter, and the third is an in-ceiling passive subwoofer. To further reduce visibility, all come with a bezel whose width has been reduced by 70 percent.

The HSi 430 with round bezel and HSi 435 with square bezel will be available in May at $250 (street price) each. They come with metal back can and bass-enhancing front-firing ports, the company said. Constant voltage versions will be available for commercial applications.

The $500-MAP HSi S6W2 subwoofer, due in June, features 6-inch woofer attached to a flexible tube that ports into an in-ceiling bandpass enclosure. It ships with a round and a square bezel and grille. All speakers come with magnetic grilles.

The 50-180Hz subwoofer features built-in passive crossover, enabling the subwoofer to be wired to one or two pairs of the satellite speakers while being driven by the same amplifier.
