Pep Boys To Offer 12V Installs

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 6/1/2009

Pep Boys will begin offering car stereo installation in approximately 100 storefronts over the next several months, as the chain aims to fill a gap left by the exit of Circuit City and Tweeter, and by recent downsizing of the car stereo assortment in Best Buy, said industry members.

Pep Boys, which operates 562 stores in 35 states and Puerto Rico, had posted want ads at press time for 20 car A/V installers in Pennsylvania and Ohio on its Web site. The ad read: “We need trusted, respectful, team-oriented, customer focused people to sell and install all types of 12 Volt mobile electronics such as car stereos, car alarms, GPS tracking, navigation systems, cellular phone accessories, mobile video, in-car PC's and more.”

The company also hired Joe Proteux on March 31 as the director of 12-volt. Proteux was formerly operations manager at Circuit City.

Pep Boys had no reply to a TWICE inquiry.
