Sirius, XM News

NEW YORK— Sirius Satellite Radio announced it reached 200,000 subscribers as of December 8, 2003. The company still remains significantly behind XM, which has more than a million subscribers. In addition, Sirius announced a venture with CBC/Radio-Canada to bring satellite radio to Canada. Sirius said the two companies will soon file an application with the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) for a license to provide satellite radio in Canada. XM said it filed an application to broadcast in Canada this fall. It expects the application will be approved early next year. A spokesman said, "We will have some dedicated programming for Canada. We are also in discussions with CBC."
