Samsung Bows 1st Color Laser

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 10/27/2003

Samsung refreshed its laser-printer line earlier this month with the introduction of its first color capable model, the CLP-500.

The CLP-500 is aimed at the small business market, but will sell through office superstore chains starting in November, said Rey Roque, Samsung's VP/marketing, digital information technology division. The expected street price is in the $699 range.

The CLP-500 is the first in a line of Samsung color laser printers that will reach up to the enterprise level and work its way down to more SOHO/consumer products in the coming months.

It has a monochrome print speed of 20 pages per minute and 5ppm for color. It comes standard with automatic duplex printing, a 350-page capacity and has a wireless networking option.

A cost-per-page estimate was not available at the launch. Roque said the unit is designed for easy cartridge replacement.

It will compete against similarly priced models like the Hewlett-Packard LJ-1500 and Minolta 2300W.
