Survey: USB Drives More Popular

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 4/27/2005

Sunnyvale, Calif. — USB flash drives are quickly becoming the repository of choice for storing and transporting multimedia files and are selling primarily on the strength of word-of-mouth recommendations, according to a new survey commissioned by M-Systems, a USB flash drive manufacturer.

The survey, conducted by the research agency Hall and Partners this February, included 415 U.S. respondents between the ages of 15-55. They either regularly used a PC or a Mac with a USB flash drive or were considering buying a drive in the next few months. According to M-Systems, those surveyed were not informed as to who commissioned the survey and were not asked which brand of USB flash drive they used.

Forty percent of respondents said “they could not live without” their USB flash drive and 67 percent of those surveyed felt that USB flash drives are getting more popular.

More than half of those who have purchased a USB drive said they will buy another one in the next two years, primarily to upgrade capacity.

Two-thirds of those surveyed said the product was a good value for the money.
