HD Radio Surround Demos Planned

LAS VEGAS — HD Radio inventor iBiquity plans to promote the surround-sound potential of its digital AM/FM broadcast technology here at CES by using its technology and SRS Circle Surround technology to transmit matrixed 5.1-channel surround sound.
iBiquity also plans at CES to endorse SRS's technology "as the surround format of choice to its licensees," said Mike Canevaro, SRS's pro audio business development director.
Demos will be staged at the iBiquity and Kenwood booths using an FM signal, but digital AM broadcasts could also be surround-encoded, Canevaro said, without reducing the AM or FM signal's data rate.
