Toshiba, Samsung Run DVD Rental Promos

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 2/26/2001

DVD hardware manufacturers Toshiba and Samsung are teaming with DVD video software retailers for several DVD software rental promotions.

Toshiba said it is teaming with national video chain Hollywood Video to offer consumers who purchase select Toshiba DVD-Video players 10 free DVD rentals (approximately a $30 value). The offer is good at "more than 1,800 Hollywood Video locations across the U.S," and consumers are not required to rent any additional titles to qualify.

The program will use extensive point-of-purchase displays in consumer electronics retail outlets throughout the country and in Hollywood Video's in-store magazine.

Meanwhile, Samsung said it is teaming up with new online DVD rental dealer RentMyDVD.com, offering consumers who purchase a Samsung DVD player "a month's worth of rent one, get one free" coupons, which will be valid through Dec. 1.

RentMyDVD.com offers a searchable database of 11,000 titles of DVD videos, music and video games.

The offer is in addition to the company's "rent one, get one free" policy for the first month after a customer registers with the site.
