Panasonic-Backed USA Luge Wins Olympic Medals

Staff -- TWICE, 2/25/2002

Who says sponsorships of sports teams are a jinx? Not Panasonic, who sponsored the USA Luge team at the Winter Olympics — and they won a Silver and a Bronze medal.

The team of Mark Grimmette and Brian Martin slid to the silver, while Chris Thorpe and Clay Ives brought home the bronze medal. Panasonic was the Official Audio/Video Technology Supplier to USA Luge and supplied the team with a variety of digital electronic products, including the Toughbook laptop PC (see above) and Palmcorder digital camcorders, to be used during and after the Games at the team's training facilities at Lake Placid, N.Y., and in Park City, Utah, the site of the 2002 luge competition.
