HP Combines Printing, PC Groups

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 1/24/2005

Hewlett-Packard has combined its personal systems and imaging and printing groups into a new organization called the imaging and personal systems group (IPSG).

The re-entrenches HP with its core product lines and comes one month after HP's CEO Carly Fiorina said that the company's board had in the past considered spinning off some of its divisions. The reorganization is expected to maximize efficiency and build on the collaboration already established between the two groups.

The IPSG will be headed by 24-year HP veteran Vyomesh Joshi, who spent the past three years as executive VP of the imaging and printing group. The group will handle desktop PCs, notebooks, handheld devices, personal storage appliances, workstations, digital cameras, printers and supplies.

Duane Zitzner, who headed the Personal Systems group, has retired from HP.
