Sonance Launches First Source Unit

By Staff -- TWICE, 5/5/2003

Sonance's first custom-install source unit, a multizone 160GB music server, enables the company to offer an "end-to-end Sonance-branded [distributed-audio] system," said marketing director Petro Shimonishi.

The Concierge dual-HDD 160GB server, shipping at a suggested $3,600, can store 2,500 hours of compressed MP3 music or about 260 hours of uncompressed WAV files. The server, which uses Imerge's XiVA platform, delivers audio to four zones via three analog outputs and one digital output. An additional six zones can be added when the server is connected to a home Ethernet system via outboard network audio modules, which fit into modular Sonance amps. The modules ship in July at a price to be announced.

The CD-player-equipped device also features an internal 56K modem to retrieve album data from an Internet database for viewing on an onscreen menu.
