Toshiba Expands Recycling Program

By Staff -- TWICE, 10/13/2008

Toshiba digital products division is extending its free recycling program beyond Toshiba laptops to include many common consumer electronic products.

"The growth of Toshiba's free recycling program is a reflection of the company's dedication to promoting responsible disposal of hazardous waste," said Jeff Barney, general manager and VP of Toshiba's digital products division. "Recycling items regardless of the manufacturer is a natural step for Toshiba considering the value we place on environmental responsibility."

The company said it now accepts e-waste with no market value for recycling without requiring the consumer to purchase a Toshiba product. Qualifying items include laptops, tablet PCs, monitors, projectors, cameras, camcorders, servers, home audio receivers, cellphones, car audio, home electronics, auto electronics, mobile phones, PDAs, MP3 players, game systems and GPS navigation systems.

For working products with value, Toshiba said consumers can trade in their products for cash without obligation to purchase a Toshiba product. Trade-in values can be determined by visiting http://toshiba.com/recycle.

Toshiba said it has set a goal to recycle 12 million pounds of e-waste in the U.S. by 2010. For more information on Toshiba's trade-in and recycling program, visit http://explore.toshiba.com/green.
