EPA Grants Awards

Staff -- TWICE, 4/15/2002

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Christie Whitman presented Energy Star Partner Awards to 36 businesses and organizations last month in recognition of their efforts to enhance energy efficiency and reduce global warming gases.

White goods winners within the Excellence in Efficient Products category included Maytag, Whirlpool and Sears for making, selling and promoting products that save consumers money on water and energy bills while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Another retailer, Lowe's Home Improvement, received a Special Recognition Award for Online Education, while wholesale club BJ's was cited for its internal energy-saving efforts.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Energy Star, a joint EPA and Department of Energy program that works with more than 7,000 partners to improve the energy efficiency of products, homes, buildings and businesses. Since its inception, more than 750 million Energy Star products have been sold.
