Lexar Introduces New Secure USB Drive

Fremont, Calif. — Lexar Media announced the second generation of its JumpDrive Secure USB flash drive today.
The new JumpDrive Secure II offers 256-bit AES Encryption to secure folders and files along with a dashboard onscreen interface to navigate the drive's security features. The company added two new security software features to the drive. An “encrypted vault” feature lets users encrypt files by dropping them into the vault. Files removed from the vault are automatically decrypted.
Another new software feature is the File Shredder, which removes files and the “digital trail” normally left behind when files are purged, the company said. Files deleted with this method cannot be recovered.
Lexar also reduced the size of its JumpDrive Secure II, which is now roughly half the size of its predecessor. The drive will be available immediately in 256MB, 512MB and 1GB capacities $39.99, $59.99, and $109.99, respectively. A 2GB drive will ship in October for a suggested $199.99.
