TransFlash to Merge with New microSD Card

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 3/14/2005

New Orleans – Responding to the adoption of SanDisk’s TransFlash memory format in mobile devices, the SD Card Association announced that it is finalizing specs for a new SD card that would be compatible with TransFlash-enabled devices.

The announcement was made at the CTIA show, held here.

Called the microSD card, the new format will measure 11mm by 15mm by 1mm. According to the SD Card Association, SanDisk would transition its TransFlash card to the microSD standard in the third quarter of this year.

The new format will be compatible with devices that use SD or miniSD memory cards through an adapter.
