Quarterly Sales Climb At Ingram Micro

Sales at wholesale provider of technology products and services Ingram Micro climbed 16% during the first three months of 2000, hitting $7.8 billion for the period ending April 1, compared to $6.7 billion in the same three months last year.
Income for the Santa Ana, Calif.-based company during the first quarter was $96.1 million, compared to $42.3 million in the same period last year. First-quarter profits, however, were reduced to $24.7 million, given a gain of $69.3 million from the sale of securities and an extraordinary gain of $2.1 million from the repurchase of company debentures.
For the same period, Ingram Micro sales in the United States grew 11 percent to $4.59 billion, while sales in Europe and elsewhere outside the United States climbed to $3.20 billion.
