6th Avenue Electronics Joins PRO Group

The Progressive Retailers Organization (PRO Group) has opened its ranks to New York metro area specialty chain 6th Avenue Electronics, raising its membership to 16 dealers.
6th Avenue, founded in 1984 by the Temiz family, ranks 68 on the TWICE Top 100 CE Retail Registry with sales of $83.5 million in 1999. Over the past two years, the privately-held company, based in Springfield, N.J., has reinvented itself by upgrading its product lines, expanding its home theater departments and creating a large-scale custom home installation business while aggressively opening new stores and renovating older ones.
"We are looking forward to learning more about 6th Avenue's success in marketing camcorders and digital still cameras, as well as portable and shelf audio," said PRO executive director Roger Heuberger. In return, he said, the retailer will benefit from the group's competence in custom home installation services, high-end audio and direct marketing.
The addition of 6th Avenue raises PRO annual revenues to just under $1.4 billion and its store count to over 200 units in 35 states.
