TomTom To Compete With Mapquest

Concord, Mass. — TomTom announced a new beta Website that like Mapquest or Google Maps, offers door-to-door directions.

 Launching in beta today, the TomTom Route Planner employs data from TomTom’s users for map updates and historical traffic patterns.

The TomTom Route Planner is regularly updated with map improvements reported by TomTom’s million of users, after the data has been vetted, said TomTom. Also, by using historic road speed information, TomTom says it is able to provide more accurate arrival times as a route travelled on a Sunday may be less busy than the same route travelled on a Monday at 5 pm.

The Route Planner will be launched in several phases to be announced.
