Indianapolis — Consumers can control up to nine separate audio and video components with the 9-in-1 RCA Touchscreen Learning Universal Remote Control, without aiming the remote directly at the device.
The RCU1010RF model offers a built-in RF transmitter that can send RF commands around the house, even through walls. It is packaged with a separate receiver that receives the strong RF signals and communicates the commands to the selected device.
The remote, from French maker Thomson, also offers an LCD virtual keypad that only displays the keys required to operate a specific device, and comes preprogrammed with an extensive code library.
Using the learning functions, keys can be customized and upgraded. Macro functions control multiple devices with one keystroke, so the television, DVD and audio receiver can be turned on and tuned with a one-button push.
Other key features include a back-lighted LCD, a Quick Start Guide for ease of use and improved user interface. The remote, which controls a television, VCR, DVD, cable, satellite, amplifiers, tuners, CD and auxiliary components, has a suggested $159.95 retail.
