Mobile NoteTaker To Ship Oct. 1

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 9/27/2004

Synnex Corp. will mark the launch its new NexConcepts brand with the shipment of the company's Mobile NoteTaker device this week.

The NoteTaker is a handwriting capture device that clips onto to the top of a paper notepad and uses imaging technology to snap a picture of and store what is being written on the paper. The data is then transferred to a PC via a USB cable. The NoteTaker, which can store up to 50 pages of notes on its 2MB of internal memory, is used with a special pen that wirelessly links to the device.

It is expected to ship on Oct. 1 with a $149 suggested retail price.

The data is stored as a digital image, and it does not have optical character or handwriting recognition capabilities.

Synnex plans to use its NexConcepts brand as a platform to bring new products into the U.S. market, said Kirk Matsuo, associate VP of marketing. The company intends to handle the design aspect of the new products, but the manufacturing will be done in Asia.

Matsuo did not divulge his firm's product roadmap, but said it would steer clear of commodity products like PCs or those in volatile categories like LCD TV.
