Iomega Broadens REV Line

By doug Olenick -- TWICE, 8/7/2006

Iomega expanded its REV removable hard-drive line with the introduction of the REV 70GB backup drive.

The REV 70GB joins the Rev 35GB, which was rolled out about two years ago. The new drive comes in two varieties: a USB 2.0 and ATAPI, with the former carrying a $599 suggested retail price and the latter coming in $20 lower. Extra removable hard drives cost $69, and Iomega is selling four-packs for $249.

In addition to more capacity, the REV 70 offers improved performance over the original with a 30MBps data transfer rate, compared with the 25MBps rate on the REV 35, and an estimated 1 million rewrite capability.

The REV 70 is backward compatible with the REV 35 drives. Iomega reported it has sold 225,000 REV 35 and 1.2 million REV 35GB disks. The REV 35GB sells for $399.
