New Yankee Stadium To Add Diamond Vision

Warrendale, Pa. — The New York Yankees have selected Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Vision to provide the main center field, high-definition video-scoreboard display for the new Yankee Stadium, which is scheduled to open at the start of the 2009 season, the organizations said Tuesday.
The new scoreboard is billed as “the first true high-def LED display in Major League Baseball.” It will use Mitsubishi Electric’s high-density Diamond Vision AVL-ODQ8 LED technology. Mitsubishi Electric’s Q-Series display will allow up to four simultaneous 1,080 HD images.
“The Yankees are thrilled to have a Diamond Vision scoreboard in the new Yankee Stadium,” stated Lonn Trost, Yankees COO. “We’ve had Diamond Vision displays for nearly 25 years and are excited about opening the new ballpark with the latest technology available.”
The scoreboard has 8,601,600 LED lamps and is nearly 101 feet wide and 59 feet tall, producing 5,925 square feet of viewable area. The display will be driven by Mitsubishi Electric’s DSC2 Digital Display Controller, providing picture-in-picture-type technology with the flexibility to show one large 1,080 HD image, several HD images, messages, scoring or other data simultaneously.
By comparison, the scoreboard in use today at Yankee Stadium measures 24.9 feet by 32.8 feet with 486,400 LED lamps. The new Diamond Vision will be flanked by matrix signage supplied by Daktronics.
In 1983, the Yankees were one of the first professional sports teams to install a Mitsubishi Diamond Vision display.
