TEAC Readies New Portable Drives

MONTEBELLO, CALIF. —- TEAC America will ship two new portable CD-RW drives later this month as a follow up to the launch of the company's latest portable DVD-ROM drive that has just started hitting stores.

The CD-RW drives will come in two models, one with a PCMCIA drive connection and the other with USB connectivity. The first device has speeds of 4x rewrite, 4x write and 24x read, while the latter drive is 4x, 4x, and 6x for the USB. Pricing was not available.

The 8x DVD-ROM drive has a $299 suggested retail price. It is about the size of a portable audio CD player and connects to a notebook computer through the PCMCIA slot.
