Clarion's JoyRide Gets New Software

Staff -- TWICE, 2/26/2001

MUNICH, GERMANY -Infogation is unveiling here the newest navigation software for the Clarion JoyRide (formerly, AutoPC), which will become available in April.

Called AccuRoute, it offers 3D mapping and supports a larger navigation screen of up to 4 x 6 inches. According to Infogation product director Keith Washington, AccuRoute works with both DVDs and CDs so users can watch a DVD movie in the JoyRide and use CD maps in a CD changer for navigating.

If a user is not watching a DVD movie, they can opt for a DVD navigation disc instead. The new AccuRoute screen is also more realistic, Clarion said, as it now shows en route highway signs while it tracks a vehicle along a highway.

It also provides better vehicle tracking, "so if you find you are in a tunnel or place where GPS is not available for a while, you can still track the vehicle accurately," Washington said. Infogation unveiled the new AccuRoute software this month at the 2001 First European Microsoft Automotive and Telematics Conference.
