Startup Torrent Debuts Initial Line

By Staff -- TWICE, 1/8/2009

Accessories start-up Torrent is making its debut with an initial consumer offering of HDMI and component-video cables.

According to founder Craig Palli, Torrent's HDMI cables are constructed using the highest-grade, highest-performing materials including 24-karat gold connectors, nitrogen-injected gas dielectrics and the purest silver and copper available.

Torrent HDMI cables feature innovative cabling connection, cabling verification and cable shielding technologies. The cables' magnetic connector improves the HDMI connection strength by up to five times, the company said, ensuring optimal connectivity.

Torrent's VeriFYI connection confirmation checks the HDMI cable end to end to ensure that the signal is properly transmitted, and then provides a visual verification using a built-in LED indicator light.

Torrent's four-layer shielding, called Signal Armor, is made of a blend of Mylar and extruded ferrite for maximum protection of the HDMI cables against electromagnetic and RF interference.

The company's patent-pending AmpliFire technology, an advanced equalization process for extended cable runs based on a specialized low-power processor built into the cable, is powered solely by the connection between devices and eliminates the need for stand-alone extenders and equalizers, Palli said.

All Torrent cables are free of harmful substances such as PVC, halogen, phthalate and lead, making them "eco-friendly from cradle to grave," according to Palli.

The HDMI line offers five levels of performance: HD supreme, rated at 10.2Gbps for optimum peformance of 1080p HDTVs, Blu-ray and heavy gaming applications; HD advanced, rated at 6.68Gbps; HD select, rated at 4.95Gbps with Signal Armor; HD enhanced , also at 4.95Gbps but with mylar protective shielding; and HD, at 2.223Gbps.

All Torrent products are backed by a lifetime warranty and environmental commitment, which includes ecologically sensitive practices in the use of materials, manufacturing and delivery methods, the company said.

Torrent will also being showing its initial line of component video cables with patent-pending LeverLoc connectors.
