Fujifilm FinePix Boasts Super CCD Sensor

Valhalla, N.Y. — Fujifilm will ship its first digital camera to incorporate a new Super CCD sensor to dealers this month.

The 12-megapixel F200EXR incorporates the new Super CCD EXR sensor, which enables the camera to shoot in three modes. First is fine capture, which is a full-resolution mode for well-lit areas. A pixel-fusion mode can merge adjacent pixels, allowing the sesnor to absorb more light and resulting in a 6-megapixel image, Fujifilm said.

Finally, a dual-capture mode captures two different exposures at 6 megapixels each and combines them to provide for improved dynamic range.

An EXR Auto mode will automatically select the right mode for the scene. EXR modes are also available manually.

The F200EXR features a 5x optical (28mm) zoom lens, a 3-inch LCD, CCD-shifting image stabilization, dynamic range bracketing, manual exposure and 17 scene modes. It is capable of shooting 3-megapixel images at ISO 12,800 and includes new film-simulation modes such as sepia and black and white.

A high-speed playback mode can scroll through images at 10 fps while a portrait enhancing mode removes blemishes from faces, Fujifilms said.

The F200EXR retails for $399.

Also due this month is the 10-megapixel A150, which features a 3x optical zoom lens, a 3-inch LCD, digital stabilization, automatic red-eye correction and 20MB of internal memory.

The camera uses a pair of AA batteries and will retail for $129.
