Samsung Changes Marketing Team, Promoting Sanduski, Hiring Revie

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 1/5/2006

Samsung Electronics America said it has restructured its product marketing teams for the television and audio/video departments, bringing in former Sony executive John Revie as marketing VP of the visual display products group and promoting Jim Sanduski to senior marketing VP of the newly combined digital video and audio products group.

Both Revie and Sanduski report to Peter Weedfald, Samsung's North American consumer electronics sales, marketing and operations senior VP.

Sanduski, who moves over from his former visual display products group marketing VP spot, is an 11-year veteran of Samsung. He will be responsible for leading Samsung's DVD, MP3 digital audio and video, camcorder, HTiB (Home Theater in a Box) and video security system product categories.

Sanduski will also oversee Samsung's entry into next-generation high-definition optical disc and camcorder products, XM portable satellite/MP3 player products and additional emerging audio and video components.

While overseeing the visual display products group, Sanduski saw Samsung's sales rise to become the second largest digital TV brand in the United States. Over the past four years sales revenue grew nearly five-fold, Samsung said.

“We are pleased to appoint Jim to this new role and capitalize on the upcoming technological advancements in the digital video and digital audio categories,” said Weedfald in announcing the move.

The newly created digital video and audio products group position unites the digital video and audio products categories under one division for the first time.

Reporting to Sanduski will be Maria Colon, DVD product marketing manager; Aaron Novak, camcorder marketing manager; Mark Farish, portable digital audio senior marketing manager; Matt Durgin portable digital audio marketing manager; and Bill Hadam, digital audio products senior product manager.

Revie comes to Samsung from Sony Electronics, where he spent 20 years in various marketing roles, including the camcorder, data media storage and TV businesses. In 2003, Revie was named consumer television general manager.

Revie will take over a category that this year surpassed the $1.5 billion mark at a company-best pace, Samsung said. He will oversee product marketing for LCD, plasma, DLP and SlimFit HDTV products.

Reporting to Revie will be Jonas Tanenbaum, flat-panel TV marketing director; Steve Panosian, SlimFit CRT and rear-projection TV marketing director; Ali Atash, LCD product manager; Bill Dickey, plasma product manager; Dan Schinasi, DLP senior product manager; and Kevin Cahill, SlimFit product manager.

John LaVoie was recently named senior manager of the new product launch and channel marketing division, charged with facilitating individual product launches.
