Sony, Circuit City, Best Buy Join 12-Volt Summit

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 6/24/2008

Dallas — Most key members of the car stereo industry will be represented at the upcoming 12-Volt Summit to be held here next month, as Sony, Circuit City and Best Buy recently joined the roster of expected attendees, said Summit steering committee member Steve Witt, marketing VP of Alpine.

The Summit, charged with raising awareness for the car stereo industry, has a total of 70 registered attendees, including leading suppliers Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, JL Audio and Clarion, as well as Sirius, XM and iBiquity, said Acumen, the Summit organizer.

Circuit City verbally agreed to attend the Summit, and Sony confirmed it will attend last night, Witt said. Best Buy recently registered, joining other leading retailers including Crutchfield, Al & Ed’s, Custom Sounds and Sixth Avenue Electronics.

Circuit City did not respond to a TWICE inquiry earlier today, and Sony said it will respond later.

The Summit’s goal is to create an action plan to counter the 30 percent drop in consumer awareness of aftermarket car audio seen over the past five years.

It will be held July 16-17 at the Dallas Wyndham DFW Airport North. For more information, visit www.12voltsummit.com.
