By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 9/11/2006

Planar will use CEDIA Expo (booth 369) to make one of its first appearances since announcing plans to return to the consumer electronics market with lines of flat-panel TVs, front projectors and projection screens for the custom installation and A/V specialty channels.

The company will offer a lineup of LCD TVs highlighted by 37W-, 42W- and 47W-inch models, all offering full 1920-by-1080p resolution. Pricing and specifications will be announced at the show.

Planar's home theater projector line includes six DLP models, ranging in resolution from 480p EDTV to 1080p full HDTV.

Models include the PD8110 ($9,999 suggested retail) 1920-by-1080p projector, featuring Texas Instruments' .96 inch native 1080p DMD, horizontal and vertical lens shift functions, a short throw lens, 1,200 ANSI lumens of brightness and an 8,000:1 contrast ratio.

The DP7130 ($3,999) produces 720p native resolution using a 0.65 inch DMD, and features horizontal and vertical lens shift functions, 900 ANSI lumens of brightness, and a 4,500:1 contrast ratio.
