Sampo Offers CompactFlash DVD

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 10/22/2001

Sampo America is shipping what it calls the first DVD video player to also playback MP3 music files and digital still photos from DVDs, CDs and CompactFlash memory cards.

Model DVE-631CF, which currently carries a $249.95 suggested retail price, features a built-in CompactFlash memory card reader that will accept digital still photos and digital music files. It also adds a photo display management system.

Once a CF card is inserted in the deck, the television screen displays several folders so users can navigate and retrieve files using the remote control.

Brian Ballard, Sampo sales and marketing director, said the DVE-631CF will be used to show CE dealers that Sampo offers a diverse and differentiated DVD product line. "It's an illustration that Sampo can be a major player in digital consumer electronics," he said.

The player includes JPEG photo display software to enable viewing JPEG image files on TV screens. Other capabilities include CD-R/RW compatibility.
