Fujifilm Introduces Movie Box DVD-R/+R Disc Six-Packs

Staff -- TWICE, 3/22/2004

Fuji Photo Film U.S.A. introduced six-packs of blank DVD-R and DVD+R media that it is calling Movie Box.

Movie Box DVD-R and DVD+R are suited to storing videos, music and photos. They feature 4.7 GB capacity, a 4x write speed and are considered by Fujifilm to be the best storage option for home use.

Suggested retails are $2.99 each and $17.99 for a 6-pack.

At the same time, the Fujifilm recording media division said it has developed an organic dye that will eventually allow DVD-R recording capabilities at speeds spanning 1x to 16x. The dye coating will ultimately make it possible to record the equivalent of a full-length, two-hour movie in less than five minutes.

In addition, Fujifilm has shown how the new dye coating can be used in the manufacture of a Blue-Violet Laser write-once optical disc, with a recording capacity of 23.3 GB.
