Memorex Introduces 8x Dual DVD Burner
SANTA FE SPRINGS, CALIF.— Memorex will start shipping the Memorex True 8x DVD burner in January. The drive will burn both plus and dash DVD media and will carry a $249 suggested retail price. The True 8x will write to DVD+RW and DVD-RW at 4x speed and burn CD-RW discs at 40x speed.
New Mini-Cradle Ships For Palm Products
NEW YORK— PalmOne has started shipping a new mini-cradle for its handheld computers. The pedestal-style cradle works with all palmOne modles with the Universal Connector and can synchronize with any PC or Mac and acts as a recharger. The mini-cradle has built-in lighting that informs the user it is properly connected. It carries a $49.95 suggested retail price and is shipping to all palmOne's retail partners. PalmOne is the new name Palm adopted in October after it finalized its acquisition of Handspring and spun off PalmSource, the company's software arm.
SimpleTech To Release Bonzai USB Drive Line
SANTA ANA, CALIF.— SimpleTech will start shipping its Bonzai line of upgradeable USB 2.0 flash memory drives. The models, which do not have embedded flash memory but use a supplied SD or MMC card, will come in 64MB, 128MB, 256MB and 512MB capacities with prices ranging from $53 to $319. SimpleTech is also offering a plain reader version without any memory card for $19. These will start shipping in January.
