The SideWinder X6 keyboard and the SideWinder X5 mouse are both geared toward PC gamers. The X6 keyboard ($79.95) features what the company is hailing as the first “switchable” keypad. The keypad is engineered to operate as a standard numerical pad in normal keyboard mode, and then becomes a programmable macro pad in game mode. It can be attached to either the left or right side of the keyboard.
Other features include the ability to store up to 90 macros per game and two-color adjustable backlighting (red and amber). Using the mode-switching function, users can go from standard computer functions to gaming operations. Also, automatic profile switching detects the application that is running and applies the custom profile, according to the company.
The keyboard also features a Cruise Control option that reportedly continues an action without having to hold down the key or keys assigned to the action. A Quick-Launch key gives one-touch access to Windows Vista Games Explorer, allowing gamers to quickly see the games in their PC’s game library.
The SideWinder X5 ($59.95) is a nine-button mouse that offers adjustable sensitivity switching up to 2,000 dpi, five customizable buttons, a wide rubber scroll wheel and the Quick-Launch button. Other features include the Quick Turn macro, which lets users check their perimeter from wherever they are in the game; vertical metal side buttons; and macro recording, which is said to enable users to create and assign macros out-of-game (using the included software).
Both the keyboard and mouse are scheduled for September availability.
