Unwired Marks 10M Headphone Sales

By Staff -- TWICE, 1/5/2006

Unwired Technology is celebrating the 10 million automotive headphones it has sold in its business lifetime, and is introducing a new technology for its new headphones during International CES.

The company is announcing the development of its Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC). The ASIC has effectively shrunk the circuit for the company's dual-channel IR headphone models, reducing the parts count by more than 80 percent and increasing the reliability and durability of the units, Unwired said.

According to the company, several major automakers are already committed to Unwired's ASIC-enabled dual-channel headphones for model year 2007.

Specifically developed for use in Unwired's dual-channel wireless headphones, the ASIC technology will help further increase the quality of the units while cutting costs both in the OEM and automotive aftermarket.

In addition to ASIC headphones, Unwired will officially introduce its original line of fold-flat, single- and dual-channel wireless headphones, models R1H-B22F0 and R2H-B22F0 during CES.

The R1H-B22F0 and R2H-B22F0 fold-flat headphones from the Plainview, N.Y.-based company are available with a basic black finish and thick foam on the earpiece for comfort. The units offer a volume control feature, an ergonomically-designed adjustable headband to ensure a comfortable fit for every member of the family and an integrated circuit that shuts the headphones off when not in use, helping to preserve battery life, the company said.

Suggested retails are $49.99 and $69.99 for the R1H-B22F0 and R2H-B22F0, respectively.
