Staff -- TWICE, 5/28/2001

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. — Samsung Electronics America introduced its second-generation Nuon-enhanced DVD player.

The DVD-N501, which is shipping now at a $279.99 suggested retail price, uses a 128-bit processor and an enhanced optical pickup to bring users new entertainment options from an array of audio/video formats.

In addition to playing a special class of Nuon-enhanced DVD video games, the DVD player will bring more powerful capabilities to normal DVD videos, including smooth high-speed scanning at up to 256 times normal play speed, and a MediaMacro zoom and pan function.

Additionally, the player is compatible with CD-R discs and MP3 files. Audio enhancements include HDCD decoding for full 20-bit sound quality.
