Gateway Unveils $999 Home Theater System

By Staff -- TWICE, 10/13/2003

Gateway introduced a 1,000-watt, 6.1-channel home theater system that includes a progressive scan DVD player last week.

The KAS-303 is available immediately with a $999 suggested retail price. It comes with center, front and rear speakers rated at 100 watts each and a 400-watt subwoofer. The system has an integrated Dolby Digital EX decoder, DTS ES decoder and Dolby Pro Logic II. Its A/V inputs include S-Video, Composite Video and stereo audio.

The package is being targeted toward the high-end home theater consumer, Gateway said. It is part of the companies ongoing rollout of CE products that has included flat-panel TVs and digital cameras.

(For more on Gateway's entry into the lucrative digital camera market, with a $199 4-megapixel model and a $299 5-megapixel model, and a reaction from competing retailers and industry observers, see stories on p. 12 and p. 32)
