CinemaNow Adds Fox Downloads

Marina Del Rey, Calif. — Internet on-demand video distributor CinemaNow said it has signed a licensing agreement with Fox Entertainment Group (FEG) to offer select movies and television content on a download-to-own basis.

In addition to movies, the deal with 20th Century Fox will extend to television content from FOX Broadcasting, FX, FUEL TV and SPEED and other titles from the 20th Century Fox television library.

The company said the deal represents “the first time CinemaNow will offer content from multiple television networks on its service.”

CinemaNow began offering the new content today from www.cinemanow.com. Television product will become available beginning July 1, the company said.

Movies initially offered on a download-to-own basis will include recent hits such as “The Ringer,” “Cheaper By The Dozen 2”and “The Family Stone.” Television content initially offered on a download-to-own basis will include hit shows such including the first season of “24,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Firefly” and “Lost in Space.” In addition, the deal will include FX’s “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia,” FUEL TV’S “First Hand” and SPEED’s “Pinks.”

New Fox movie releases and catalog titles will be available for prices ranging from $9.95 to $19.95, while television shows will sell for $1.99 per episode.

“Our goal is to accommodate our customers wherever they are, and CinemaNow is helping us to do just that,” Peter Levinsohn, Fox Digital Media president said in a statement. “Making our content available across a variety of platforms ensures that we’ll engage new audiences as well.”

Purchased downloads are permanent for unlimited playback on up to three Microsoft Windows Media-compatible devices, equipped with Microsoft’s Digital Rights Management technology.
