JVC Launches DVD Player Promotion

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 11/5/2001

JVC announced a DVD promotion offering purchasers of any JVC home or car DVD or TV/DVD player a free DVD movie and/or DVD-Audio software title.

The offer, which will run through the holiday season, ending December 31, will allow consumers to choose a Special Limited Edition DVD of "Total Recall" or "Basic Instinct," both from Artisan Home Entertainment.

Both discs include limited edition collectible packaging and extras, including audio commentaries, deleted scenes and featurettes.

Consumers who purchase a JVC DVD player with DVD-Audio capabilities also receive in the box two DVD-Audio samplers from Warner Music Group. One disc features 11 tracks of popular musical genres from such artists as the Stone Temple Pilots, Barenaked Ladies, Grateful Dead, The Doors, Neil Young, The Corrs, ELP, Foreigner, Fourplay, Daniel Barenboim (Beethoven) and Nikolaus Harnoncourt (Dvorak).

The second exclusive disc features five DVD-Audio mixes from Yes' new CD "Magnification," which is slated for general release in stores on December 4, and five greatest hits from the DVD "House of Yes" performance.

JVC will support the promotion with national magazine ads, radio spots in the top 50 markets and with Web ads on movie and music sites.

The company said it will also conduct a Mystery Shopper retail contest designed to encourage sales associates to stay on top of JVC's products and programs. A JVC DVD entertainment center will be awarded to top performers. In the contest, sales associates will be approached and asked questions about JVC's line of DVD players, DVD-Audio and the "JVC Surrounds You with Great Movies & Music" promotions.
