Iqua Bringing Solar Headset To U.S.

By John Laposky -- TWICE, 11/15/2007

Oak Park, Calif. — Iqua, the Finnish manufacturer of communications accessories, has launched a subsidiary, Iqua U.S.A., to market its products in the United States.

Its first product will be a solar-charging Bluetooth headset, the Sun.

The new organization will be headed up by Paul Murdock, who was named VP of Iqua for the Americas. He will be responsible for building Iqua’s distribution channel in the United States, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as for product management, sales and marketing, and customer support and service throughout the region.

The Sun headset has a built-in solar-panel that uses any available light — outdoors and indoors — to extend the talktime of the headset. It will be available through retail and online outlets in the United States in January.

Iqua dipped its toe in the U.S. market in 2006, when it brought a line of Bluetooth accessories to International CES. The line was well accepted, according to the company, and led the company to expand its efforts.

“We founded Iqua with a vision for innovation that enriches the global mobile life,” said Juha Reima, Iqua co-founder and CEO. “The feedback from consumers in the Americas from our earlier products, such as the Iqua Snake, underscored what we’ve been hearing in Europe and Asia. We expect that Iqua Sun will generate strong interest in the Americas, too.”

Murdock has 14 years of experience in the mobile communications industry, including positions in sales and channel development at Nokia and Philips.
